A forthcoming book titled The 27s—The Greatest Myth of Rock & Roll includes a section on Jeremy Ward. “Jeremy was such an important ingredient of De Facto and The Mars Volta's early sound,” says author Eric Segalstad.”Yet he preferred to perform from behind the soundboard, sculpting textures.”
The 27s presents the history of rock seen through the lives and legacies of more than thirty musicians who died at that eponymous age. The list includes Brian Jones, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain and members of The Lost Boyz, Uriah Heep, Minutemen, Echo & the Bunnymen, Hole, Badfinger, The Gits, and Big Star, and others. “While researching for The 27s it surprised us that the entire history of rock—from bluesman Robert Johnson thru The Mars Volta—was pretty much all there. Every one of the 27s were first-rate exponents of their specific style,” Segalstad adds.
"Cedric and Omar acknowledge Jeremy Ward's influence on The Mars Volta, but most recent Volta fans don’t even know who he was," says Josh Hunter, The 27s’ illustrator and designer. “We hope the book will turn a lot of people on to Ward, De Facto and The Mars Volta.” Hunter promises that a full-blown portrait of Ward will grace two of the book’s 224 pages.
